Uzbekistan AI Education Center Holds Completion Ceremony and 'AI for Uzbekistan' Hackathon

Cheju Halla University held the first-semester completion ceremony for 2026 and the ‘AI for Uzbekistan’ hackathon on June 20 (local time) at the AI Education Center it operates at Tashkent International University (TIU) through the KOICA Civil Society Cooperation Program. The event shared learners’ progress and gave them a forum to present AI-based ideas for addressing local social challenges.

A 12-week program across four AI tracks

48 people registered for the semester. 30 learners who completed at least two of the four courses delivered over 12 weeks received completion certificates, and 39 people in total, including local tutors and guest lecturers, received completion or certification documents. The participants included TIU students as well as practitioners from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Defense, Central Bank, the United Nations, and other organizations.

The program covered four tracks:

  • Azure AI Fundamentals
  • Generative AI and prompt engineering
  • AI convergence solution consulting
  • AI engineering and MLOps

The program also included Training of Trainers (ToT), preparing local tutors to continue delivering AI education in Uzbekistan. This created a foundation for local educators to teach students and fellow instructors after the initial training.

Five teams tackling local challenges

The afternoon program was AI Hackathon 2026, organized around the theme ‘AI for Uzbekistan’. Participants worked from problems drawn from industry and proposed AI-based responses. Five teams presented their projects.

The top prize went to Team 04’s ‘Voice the Ballot’, a data platform that converts speech in 11 Central Asian languages, including Uzbek, into text. Other presentations included an LLM-based intent and emotion analysis assistant, an AI price-comparison search engine, an AI recruitment-support platform, and a flight-delay alert system.

The next stage of AI education cooperation in Uzbekistan

TIU plans to establish an AI Department in September on the basis of this cooperation. Young Joon Lee, Cheju Halla’s Vice President and KOICA program director, who is also a professor in the AI Department, said an important goal is to build local education capacity so Uzbekistan can continue developing and teaching AI talent after the program ends.
