2026 AI Department MT — Record Freshmen Turnout for a Day of Bonding

Cheju Halla University’s AI Department held its 2026 spring MT on Friday, April 4. With a record number of freshmen joining the department this year, the event was the most energetic in the department’s history.

The MT was designed to build connections between freshmen and returning students. In a single day, students who barely knew each other’s names came together as a cohesive group, strengthening their sense of belonging within the department.

Cooking Together, Bonding Naturally

The event kicked off with students preparing a barbecue from scratch. Grilling meat, setting the table, and sharing dish duty — the initial awkwardness dissolved quickly through the simple act of working side by side. Seated around the tables with name tags on, conversations flowed freely across all grades.

Strong Faculty Support Behind the Scenes

The faculty played a key role in making this MT a success. Professors actively supported the event from the planning stage, allowing students to focus on running the programs. In particular, Professor Youngjun Lee joined the students on-site, mingling with them throughout the evening. Casual conversations outside the classroom gave students a deeper sense of trust and belonging within the department.

A Touch of Jeju — Sponsorship from Hallasan Soju

Hallasan Soju, Jeju’s iconic liquor brand, generously sponsored drinks for the event. A distinctly Jeju toast brought students even closer together, and the local company’s warm support added a special energy to the occasion.

“More Than a Major — A Community”

Before writing a single line of code together, they got to know each other as people first. This year’s MT reaffirmed that the AI Department is more than an academic program — it is a community. With a record class of freshmen now on board, the semesters ahead look brighter than ever.
