Cheju Halla University Signs AI R&D and Commercialization Cooperation MOU with Saltlux and Ploonet

Cheju Halla University (President Kim Sunghoon) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Saltlux Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Kyungil) and Ploonet Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Kyungil) for research, development, and commercialization cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence in connection with the Regional Innovation System & Education (RISE) project, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, in the Kumho World Education Center on campus.

The signing ceremony was attended by a total of 16 representatives from both sides, including Cheju Halla University President Kim Sunghoon along with key administrators and faculty, and Saltlux and Ploonet CEO Lee Kyungil and Vice President Park Jaewon.

The key contents of the agreement include ▲enhancement and expansion of the AI Professor system through the introduction of next-generation multimodal capabilities, ▲development of multi-metahuman technology and expansion of multilingual functions, ▲expansion and application to the digital healthcare field, ▲establishment and operation of the Jeju AI Computing Center, and ▲building a platform to resolve Jeju regional issues using AI.

Through this agreement, the three institutions agreed to cooperate on research, development, and commercialization based on Cheju Halla University’s ‘AI Professor System.’ In particular, plans for cooperation in various fields were laid out in connection with the RISE project’s goals of regional innovation, including the development and operation of a next-generation multimodal AI education system, establishment of an AI-based lifelong education system tailored to the local community, building a platform to address Jeju regional issues using AI, and cultivation of AI professionals in the digital healthcare field.

Cheju Halla University President Kim Sunghoon noted, “Cheju Halla University has recognized the importance of AI culture and has made various efforts over the past five years, including establishing the Department of Artificial Intelligence,” and added that “cooperation with Saltlux will be a great momentum for our university.” He also expressed ambition to “grow into a competitive university through an AI specialization program in connection with the RISE project.”

Saltlux and Ploonet CEO Lee Kyungil stated, “I feel a great sense of meaning in becoming an important partner to Cheju Halla University’s vision and organizational efforts,” and noted that “this agreement will be an important turning point for everyone.” He also emphasized, “We will do our best to be able to grow together from start to finish — from project execution to operation, development, and commercialization — as one body, as one partner.”

Cheju Halla University plans to further strengthen industry-academia cooperation in the AI field in connection with the RISE project based on this agreement, and to expand AI education and research programs linked to the local community. Through this, the university is set to accelerate its efforts to build an AI-based innovation ecosystem in the Jeju region and cultivate talent tailored to local needs.

This agreement is an important example showing that the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Cheju Halla University is working in close cooperation with regional industries to engage in practical AI technology development and talent cultivation. It is expected to provide students with opportunities to learn the latest AI technologies and participate in real projects, which will in turn lead to enhanced competitiveness for the department.
